I’ve told you once of a rabbit who is easily awed by things of beauty and has this habit of picking up things before, and now, rabbit continues her journey after picking up the shard of glass..
It was nightfall and the shard of glass still hadn’t answered. Rabbit is frustrated because the rainbow was gone the moment that the sun had bid farewell and the moon had taken it’s shift to bring a soft glow upon the fields. Rabbit decided to hop back to her house taking the shard of glass with her. She could not leave the shard of glass behind for she is hoping that the glass might answer and she wouldn’t be there to hear it. Rabbit sat on her table staring at the shard of glass with wonder. “How lucky am I to come across such a wonderful thing! This must have been God’s gift for me!”. She then carefully got up to wrap the shard of glass on one of her favorite handkerchiefs before she went to bed. Every time, as rabbit hops out to get some food and meet her friends, she brings the shard of glass with her. Months had passed, and the shard of glass still hadn’t made a sound, just always laying cool inside her pocket. So as rabbit sat quietly under her favorite tree, she took out the shard of glass and unwrapped the handkerchief. ‘Twas then someone spoke aloud, claiming the shard of glass to be hers. Rabbit looked around her and saw no one. She looked up and saw a snake, crawling down the tree, the snake hissed and took out a mirror telling the rabbit how the shard of glass belonged to her and how she had broken her mirror. Rabbit confused, tried to fit the shard of glass into the empty space the mirror was missing and it did fit. Then rabbit said, “but it’s no use getting it now, your mirror is already broken, it can never be whole again even if you have all the pieces” yet as she was saying these words, rabbit grasp tightly unto the shard of glass causing her hand to bleed. drop and drops of blood dripped from rabbit’s hand unto the ground and the snake said, “if it is of no use as you say it is, then why are you holding on to it so tightly that your hands are now bleeding? let go rabbit for it is mine to begin with and I treasure my mirror, even though broken as much as you treasure that shard of glass” Rabbit, speechless and filled with emotions, let go of the glass, now smeared with rabbit’s blood but still silent as it was the day rabbit had picked it up…
Rabbit then quickly hops toward her friend, the panda’s house and cried.
It has been awhile that the shard of glass has left the rabbit’s side. Despite it’s silence, danger and coldness, rabbit had missed it terribly. Rabbit missed the rainbow the shard of glass shows her. But rabbit has no choice but to let it go,even as it had left a big scar in her hands from the cut. Because some things no matter how hard you hold on to it, no matter how much you cry and wail and beg or even bleed… will never be yours, and it doesn’t mean you won’t be happy anymore, YOU WILL BE. This is something about life that rabbit has to learn: accepting and letting go.
we cannot always have what we desire, for what if every single individual gets what he or she desires? wouldn’t the world be more chaotic than it is now?
